Lance Fritz ‘91 MBA

Lance M. Fritz served as Union Pacific chairman, president and chief executive officer from 2015 until 2023, when he retired from the railroad after 23 years of service.

Fritz began his Union Pacific career in July 2000 as vice president and general manager-Energy in the company’s Marketing and Sales Department. Throughout his Union Pacific career he also served in executive positions in the Operating and Labor Relations departments, and as president and chief operating officer of Union Pacific Railroad.

Before joining Union Pacific, Fritz worked for Fiskars Inc., Cooper Industries and General Electric. He is a graduate of Bucknell University and earned a master’s degree in management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Fritz serves as a member of the board of directors of Parker-Hannifin Corporation and Fiserv.  He is also a member of The Business Council and serves on the Bucknell Board of Trustees.

Fritz is deeply involved with community organizations in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. He is a member of the board of directors for Nebraska Medicine, Omaha Zoological Society, the Kiewit Luminarium, and Heritage Services.

Fritz and his wife, Julie, have two children and are committed to helping women and children at risk in the Omaha community.
